A partnership blooms after UA dissertation highlights recruitment biases in higher ed

A University of Arizona doctoral student asked in her 2019 dissertation how universities recruit and which students they tried to woo.

Her findings inspired a program to connect students from a local majority Hispanic, low-income school district to University of Arizona recruiters.

The Native Center for Disabilities aims to improve disability services and employment access for Native youth and adults with disabilities

Jan. 30, 2022

The two grants establish the foundation for the Native Center for Disabilities, administered by the Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities in the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson’s Department of Family and Community Medicine. The Native Center for Disabilities will provide on-site and virtual trainings, continuing education, workshops, community events and other disability and culturally related services.

Arizona Community Foundation to Provide Grant in Support of Native American Students

Jan. 30, 2022

A historic partnership between the Arizona Community Foundation and the UArizona College of Medicine – Phoenix will provide $306,000 in grant funding to support nine Native American students — three students per year for three years — on their journey through the Pathway Scholars Program and into medical school.

The Importance of Indigenous Librarianship: Q&A with Knowledge River Alumnus Alex Soto

9 Questions with CAPLA Student Daniel Vega, '24 M Arch

Dec. 16, 2021

Yaqui tribe member Daniel Vega, who is from Tucson, graduated from the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program in December 2021. Continuing his passion for sustainable design, he is taking advantage of the CAPLA Master of Architecture accelerated master’s program (AMP), which allowed him to start the M Arch program during his SBE senior year. He will complete the M Arch in 2024.
