American Indian Studies is a graduate interdisciplinary program offering a Ph.D., M.A., J.D./M.A., and Graduate Certificates in Higher Education, Natural Resources Administration & Management, and Native Nation Building.  Located in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the undergraduate program offers a major (B.A.) and minor in AIS.

Border Latino and American Indian Summer Exposure to Research (BLAISER)

This 10-week, undergraduate research experience provides an extraordinary laboratory training opportunity, pairing the junior and senior level student-scholars with preeminent UA health sciences researchers.

Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology (BARA)

BARA is an academic research unit located in the School of Anthropology. BARA's mission is to place anthropology at the service of contemporary society, prepare the next generation of professional anthropologists, advance knowledge of the human condition, and address the pressing issues of local communities.

Foundations for Biomedical Science PhDs Serving Indigenous Cultures (Certificate NDP)

The Foundations for Biomedical Science PhDs Serving Indigenous Cultures certificate program is designed to provide American Indian/Alaskan Native students, and students from other underrepresented groups in science, with a rigorous research and educational program that honors Indigenous perspectives and nurtures a strong sense of well-being and belonging.

Indians in Nursing: Career Advancement & Transition Scholars (INCATS) Program

The INCATS program is a five-year project to increase the number of BSN and advanced practice Native American nurses who will practice in tribal facilities, create new pathways for Associate Degree nurses to advance their careers and build new tribal-academic-practice collaborations that expand the Native American nursing workforce prepared to improve care of native populations.

Indigenous Food, Energy, and Water Systems (Minor)

The Indige-FEWS GIDP PhD Minor integrates engineering and science disciplines with humanities to fully prepare students for the interdisciplinary collaboration required to tackle the FEWS challenges of Indigenous communities with skill, respect and fellowship.

Indigenous Governance Program (IGP)

IGP is a partnership between UArizona’s Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy program and the Native Nations Institute. The program provides training and education for individuals interested in Indigenous governance and rights. Participants may enroll in a single course (for credit or not) or work toward a Continuing Education Certificate, Graduate Certificate, or Masters of Professional Studies in Indigenous Governance.

Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy Program (IPLP)

The University of Arizona Law is the only law school in the world offering all three graduate degrees in the field (JD, LLM, and SJD), as well as a Master of Legal Studies and Master of Professional Studies, with a concentration in Indigenous peoples law and policy.

Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP)

ITEP is a two-year elementary education degree program for Indigenous pre-service teachers focusing on Indigenous education. Individuals graduate with a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate.

Knowledge River is a graduate program that trains librarians and information specialists with a focus on Native American and Latinx cultural issues.

Leadership in Health Equity in American Indian Development (LEAD)

This project addresses the institutional barriers to AIAN persistence and progression in a four-year college, the impact of a structured first-year program that addresses such barriers, and will train 40 AIAN students in a certificate in Leadership in AIAN Health Equity.

Master of Arts in Native American Languages and Linguistics (NAMA)

The NAMA degree program provides students with a Master's degree in Linguistics focused on maintaining, revitalizing, and documenting native languages.

Mentorship and Education in SCIence for Tucson (MESCIT)

MESCIT is a math tutoring and mentorship program for Native American high school students in Southern Arizona. The program trains UArizona undergraduate students as math tutors to hold personalized math tutoring sessions at the Ha:sañ Preparatory and Leadership School, a charter high school in Tucson with predominantly Tohono O’odham students. This program operates at the interface of education and workforce development, with the goal to both advance math education and math identity among Native American high school students and also to help them realize their potential to pursue careers in STEM fields. UArizona undergraduates serve as both math tutors and mentors, offering students relatable role models pursuing careers in fields like engineering, physics, and math.

Native American Science and Engineering Program (NASEP)

The NASEP seeks to increase the number of Indigenous professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) fields by providing high school students with college preparation and career mentoring.

The Partnership For Native American Cancer Prevention (NACP)

NACP is a collaboration between Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona Cancer Center, funded through the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity (PACHE) U54 mechanism. The mission is to alleviate the unequal burden of cancer among Native Americans of the Southwest through research, training, and community outreach programs in collaboration with the communities we serve.

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe - University of Arizona microcampus

The purpose of the PYT-UA Microcampus is to develop exceptional higher-education services, degree programs, continuing education and workforce training opportunities for the Tribe’s members in partnership and collaboration with the UA; recognizing that the Tribe places a high priority on its members pursuing undergraduate degree opportunities, Masters level and professional school training and education, continuing education courses, and life-long learning programs for all the Tribe’s members; and recognizing that accessibility and affordability are critical factors for the Tribe’s members pursuing higher education and job training opportunities.

UA PREP seeks to provide AI/AN students with a rigorous research and educational program that honors Indigenous perspectives and nurtures a strong sense of well-being and belonging. This program will enhance the confidence and success of participants and their matriculation into strong biomedical PhD programs and subsequently increase the diversity of PhD-level scientists.
