Announcing the Haury Program Spring 2023 Native Pathway Awards supporting Graduate Research

The Haury Program invites applications for our Spring 2023 Native Pathway Awards, supporting UArizona graduate student research in the areas of tribal water sustainability and Native American and Indigenous resilience. Successful proposals may receive up to $20,000 per student and proposals will be evaluated until funds are exhausted.

Call for Inputs: Report to the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly - Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

March 1, 2023

The Special Rapporteur wishes to receive inputs by way of response to the questions including recent case studies and specific examples of best practices led by Indigenous Peoples as well as initiatives taken by States and international organizations, that will inform his report to be presented at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in October 2023.

January in Tucson 2023 Brings Together Global Cohort for Intensive Indigenous Governance Education

Every January, the University of Arizona College of Law's Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program and the Native Nations Institute come together to offer the January in Tucson (JIT) intensive education session. For three weeks, distinguished faculty members from around the world gather to teach and discuss Indigenous governance and Indigenous rights with leaders, practitioners, and community members.

Leading Indigenous Rights Attorney Gabe Galanda Awarded University of Arizona Alumni of the Year Award

Feb. 21, 2023

Galanda, an alumnus of University of Arizona Law’s Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy (IPLP) Program, has done just that. Over the span of his two-decade-long career he has worked as a legal advocate for Indigenous peoples, generously supported IPLP students, and mentored young Native lawyers. On February 3, he received the 2022-2023 Alumni of the Year Award on behalf of the James E. Rogers College of Law for his extraordinary accomplishments and continued dedication to the university.

UArizona researcher will showcase Native American sign language in Super Bowl performance

Feb. 6, 2023

Colin Denny, a research assistant in the College of Education, will perform a sign language interpretation of the song "America the Beautiful" during the Super Bowl 2023 pregame show on Sunday. The performance, he said, is an opportunity to show millions of people that North American Indian Sign Language, despite being centuries old, is still here.
