San Carlos Apache Arizona Stadium Sign Dedication
President's Newsletter
I was honored to welcome a delegation from the San Carlos Apache Tribe to our campus on Friday to celebrate a new sign for Arizona Stadium as part of our Native Languages of Arizona Campus Sign Initiative. A collaboration of the University’s Linguistics Department and the Office of Native American Advancement and Tribal Engagement, the initiative is part of our broader efforts to make the University a welcoming and inclusive place for Native American students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and to honor the Native Nations that make their homes in our region.
The sign for Arizona Stadium now proudly bears words in Apache “Dagonitnané zhi nadagonitkaad,” which mean “We will Fight Until We Win.” As I mentioned at the unveiling ceremony, this is a fitting statement that aligns with the university’s core value of determination.
