The collaboration prioritizes the roles the U of A – as Arizona's flagship, land-grant university – and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe have in benefiting students, families, and communities across Southern Arizona. Through new programs and co-created initiatives, the partnership will deepen academic, cultural, and economic links between the university and the tribe.

The third annual Women and Water Convening took place November 5-7, 2025, in Tuba City on the Navajo Nation, Arizona. This event brought together about one hundred Indigenous women and allies who are stewarding and protecting the Colorado River and other bodies of water to provide a creative space to share, plan and collaborate.

A collection of lithographs by the renowned Navajo artist R C Gorman will go up for sale to support the American Indian Endowment, which provides scholarships for Native American graduate students at the University of Arizona – bringing full circle an effort that began about three decades ago.

The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine hosted a community ceremony on October 22 to unveil its new Diné Bizaad (Navajo language) campus sign, affirming the university’s commitment to visibility, respect, and partnership with Indigenous communities.

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren spent the day at the University of Arizona meeting with Native students and university leadership to strengthen educational partnerships and listen to the voices of the next generation.

The symposium will also feature students from the American Indian Studies major, housed in the College of SBS. Students in the new AIS core class “496T/596T Indigenous Intellectual Traditions” will present on this semester’s work examining Deloria’s scholarship.

Programs and students from the University of Arizona actively participated in the 2025 AISES National Conference, Dr. Cherie DeVore was named the 2025 AISES Most Promising Engineer / Scientist.

Karletta Chief, a renowned Diné hydrologist and director of the Indigenous Resilience Center, was named inaugural recipient of the Agnese Nelms Haury Endowed Professorship in Indigenous Resilience for her contributions to the fields of hydrology, Indigenous resilience, environmental justice and climate change outreach and research.

University of Arizona Cooperative Extension’s tribal programs offer direct links between university research and Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes. Our staff live and work in tribal communities across Arizona, maintaining close ties through our seven offices on Native American nations.
