Call for Applications Now Open for 2026 Indigenous Environmental Resilience Graduate Research Awards, Deadline to Apply is March 31!
The Agnese Nelms Haury Program (“Haury Program”) is pleased to announce its annual open call for Haury Indigenous Environmental Resilience Graduate Research Awards proposals to support University of Arizona graduate students doing research relevant to Indigenous environmental resilience. Priority will be given to applications which address water, energy, and/or food issues and challenges faced by Tribal Nations and other Indigenous peoples, especially those within Arizona.
Please note that Indigenous environmental resilience is a new, narrower focus for this grant program as compared to previous years.
Also new this year is that only full applications via the online application portal by the deadline will be considered and no email or incomplete applications will be accepted.
The deadline to submit proposals is March 31, 2026, and the award notifications will be provided by May 1, 2026 with funds being available starting July 1, 2026. Amount of awards is up to $20,000 per applicant. Funds will be awarded to the project managed by a faculty member for the student research support to be used by the student according to their proposed budget.
Applicants who seek to work directly with tribes must have experience with, or obtain knowledge and training regarding the relevant tribal laws, regulations, and approvals that govern University research, education and extension work for and with tribes.
An information session will be held on February 18, 2026 at Noon to review this year’s funding priorities, application portal and templates, and NPTAO policies. Participants will also have a chance to hear from past awardees, and ask questions specific to their research or application. The recording will be posted on Haury website afterwards. Please register for the information session here.
“The Haury Program again is very proud to support graduate students whose research addresses Indigenous environmental resilience and seeks to understand and mitigate the adverse impacts of heat, drought and other climate perturbations on water, food, and energy sources. The work is not only critical to our region, but to the world. UA has long been a global leader in water research, outreach and education that recognizes the importance of tribal knowledge and sovereignty in each of these domains. Our grants enable UA resilience graduate students to continue this tradition of excellence and service,” shared Toni Massaro, Regents Professor and Professor of Law Emerita and Executive Director of the Haury Program.
